BAPTISM

BAPTISM

Congratulations on bringing your child(ren) for Baptism.

This is an important occasion, not only for your family, but for all of us in St Patrick’s Parish.

To help you more fully understand initiation into the faith Community, the life of faith, which the Sacrament of Baptism signifies, we ask you to participate in a ‘Baptism Preparation Session’, and a “Rite of Welcome’ (which is the first part of the Baptism Ceremony itself).

As the minimum requirement for Baptism in St Patrick’s, attendance at both of these are necessary. In Baptism parents and Godparents commit themselves to the faith-life of their child/children.

BAPTISM PREPARATION SESSIONS:

These are be held in the Church,  on the first Wednesdays of the month at 6.00pm in the Parish (our next session will be on the Wednesday 4th December at 5.30pm,  Tuesday 4thd February, 4th March and 1st April at 6.00pm ).  These sessions go for about an hour. Please do your best to arrive in good time to register. Babies and Godparents are welcome.

THE RITE OF WELCOME:

The Rite of Welcome, is where children are presented to the greater St Patrick’s community at Mass, as they accept and acknowledge the new members joining the Church and God’s family. This can be celebrated at any weekend Mass you choose after attending a Baptism Preparation Session and prior to the Baptism. If you wish, the ‘Rite of Welcome’ and Baptism can happen on the same day, or on separate days.

BAPTISM OFFERING:

If you would like to make an offering, an envelope will be provided at the Baptism Preparation. Your generosity is appreciated.

BAPTISM STOLES AND CANDLES:

All this information will be given at the Baptism preparation session.
