ST PATRICK’S CHURCH REFURBISHMENT PROJECT:

For a couple of years now, a parish committee has been overseeing the planning of a major refurbishment of our church building. The committee consists of: Fr Bernard Buckley, Mick O’Brien, Liz Merrigan, Freda O’Gorman, Paul Velten, Ron Jayawardene, Helen Staindl, Herbie O’Flynn and Georges Willman, property officer for the Diocese of Sale.  In that time we have been in conversation with parishioner and artist, Anthony Russo, and architect Nick Russo. During this time we have been considering issues of planning, building, engineering, finance and liturgy … among others.

Our discussion and planning for this project is now at the stage where the committee seeks the input of parishioners on the draft designs. The committee seeks to make a presentation to parishioners on the weekend of November 9th and 10th. We will have display boards from the Russos with plans and designs to date. Parishioners will have the opportunity to make written suggestions, comments etc for consideration as we plan further. Soon the draft plans will be submitted to the Bishop and his advisers seeking their required input and, we hope, approval for our plans.

Please accept the invitation to attend the briefing/ presentation on November 9th and 10th Masses to show your interest and offer your thoughts.

WORLD MISSION DAY 2019:

The title of the Pope Francis’ message for World Mission Day is Baptized and Sent: The Church of Christ on Mission in the World.

Pope Francis says that celebrating this month will help us to rediscover the missionary dimension of our faith in Jesus Christ, a faith graciously bestowed on us in baptism. He says that this missionary mandate touches us personally: I am a mission, always; you are a mission, always; every baptized man and woman is a mission. People in love never stand still: they are drawn out of themselves; they are attracted and attract others in turn; they give themselves to others and build relationships that are life-giving. As far as God’s love is concerned, no one is useless or insignificant. Each of us is a mission to the world, for each of us is the fruit of God’s love.  Pope Francis goes on to say that this mission is part of our identity as Christians; it makes us responsible for enabling all men and women to realize their vocation to be adoptive children of the Father, to recognize their personal dignity and to appreciate the intrinsic worth of every human life, from conception until natural death.

OUR LIFE IS A MISSION- EXTRAORDINARY MISSIONARY MONTH – OCTOBER 2019

Opening his letter ‘For the Centenary of the Promulgation of the Apostolic Letter Maximum Illud on the activity of missionaries in the world’, Pope Francis notes that the challenge for the work of mission is ‘as urgent as ever’. October 2019 provides an opportunity to take up again ‘with renewed fervor the missionary transformation of the Church’s life and pastoral activity’. In this first week of the Extraordinary Missionary Month, let us consider how we, in our own contexts, might accept the invitation to encounter Jesus in daily life in order to live out our baptism call to be missionary disciples.

I invite Christians, everywhere, at this very moment to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting him encounter them; I ask all of you to do to this unfailingly each day.

—Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, §3

PRAYER FOR THE EXTRAORDINARY MISSIONARY MONTH

Heavenly Father,

when your only begotten Son Jesus Christ

rose from the dead,

he commissioned his followers

to ‘go and make disciples of all nations’

and you remind us that through our Baptism

we are made sharers in the mission of the Church.

Empower us by the gifts of the Holy Spirit

to be courageous and zealous

in bearing witness to the Gospel,

so that the mission entrusted to the Church,

which is still very far from completion,

may find new and efficacious expressions

that bring life and light to the world.

Help us make it possible for all peoples

to experience the saving love

and mercy of Jesus Christ,

who lives and reigns with you

in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

One God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

THE PAKENHAM CONFERENCE OF ST VINCENT DE PAUL:

Our conference is struggling for helpers. If you are interested please call Chris on 0414 432256.

THE BULLETIN:

How good it would be if groups in the parish would take a small amount of time to write a few sentences of news from your group, for the bulletin. So much goes on around the parish, yet so little of it is shared in print. The bulletin is loaded onto the parish website each week, so a much wider audience can access it than those in the church. Also, if you are not taking your bulletin home would you please return it to the desk in the foyer after Mass.
