FROM FR BERNARD:

Thanks to everyone for many messages of prayers, support, good wishes and Masses offered for my return to good health, since I went on sick leave. It’s six months now since I left the parish and I really miss life there. I am grateful for the great efforts of the parish Team members who have kept the “show on the road’’ in that time. It was very generous of Fr Francis to step in to such a busy role as soon as he arrived in the Diocese.

The news about my health hasn’t been as good as I’d hoped. Since I had surgery in May and radiotherapy in August, several scans show that new problems have developed. As a result, the current treatment I’m on will be boosted by a new “trial’’ drug program at Peter McCallum hospital. This new treatment starts early in January, and in its early days is quite busy.

So, thanks to all of you, for the prayers you offer for me, the inquiries you make about me. I hope they continue. In the meantime, as we approach Christmas, my prayers in return are for a happy and blessed Advent for all in St Pat’s parish, and a very happy Christmas.

CELEBRATION OF MICK’S CONTRIBUTION TO OUR PARISH SCHOOL

Mr Mick O’Brien will be retiring as the principal of St Pats School after 15 long fruitful and enjoyable years.   His contribution to the development of the school is immeasurable; for the first six or more years he headed refurbishment after refurbishment and renovation of the school. He had the major role in the building of St Brigid and St Clare. As a thank you for his commitment towards the development of the school and his ongoing commitment to the parish, St Patrick’s Parish will be acknowledging him with gratitude on Sunday 8th Dec 10:00 am after mass. Mick will continue to be one of our most loved parishioners and his booming voice will continue to be heard at the weekend services.  Bring a plate to share.

VOLUNTEER ‘THANK YOU’ BBQ:

St Patrick’s Parish Pastoral council team, would like to thank all volunteers for your support and generosity in offering your time and talent to our parish with an evening BBQ on 6th December 2019. All are welcome. Bring a plate to share.

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF BLESSED VIRGIN MARY:

On Monday, Dec 9th we will have an evening with Rosary followed by a special mass in the welcome room at 7:00 pm. All are welcome to join.

BAPTISM PREP GROUP:

The parish is in need of a couple of people who might like to assist in the Baptism Preparation session, on the first Sunday of each month. The session goes for about one hour, from 2:45 pm, and is often the first visit back to the parish by the young families for many years. The really important aspect of this day is to welcome these families when they come.

CAtHFAMILY brings you a selection of activities, prayer rituals, crafts and recipes for free from their website. Don’t miss CathKids: A weekly interactive experience with a two-minute animated reflection on the Sunday reading, questions to stimulate discussion, a simple activity and prayer. Families are encouraged to utilise these resources at home to share faith with kids. Visit www.cathfamily.org

ST PATRICK’S CHURCH REFURBISHMENT PROJECT:

For a couple of years now, a parish committee has been overseeing the planning of a major refurbishment of our church building. The committee consists of: Fr Bernard Buckley, Mick O’Brien, Liz Merrigan, Freda O’Gorman, Paul Velten, Ron Jayawardene, Helen Staindl, Herbie O’Flynn and Georges Willman, property officer for the Diocese of Sale.  In that time we have been in conversation with parishioner and artist, Anthony Russo, and architect Nick Russo. During this time we have been considering issues of planning, building, engineering, finance and liturgy … among others.

Our discussion and planning for this project is now at the stage where the committee seeks the input of parishioners on the draft designs. We will have display boards from the Russos with plans and designs to date. Parishioners will have the opportunity to make written suggestions, comments etc for consideration as we plan further.
