Sharing Our Story, Celebrating Our Faith, Shaping Our Future

The Diocese of Sale is holding its Diocesan Assembly, the first for over 15 years, in September. The Assembly will be convened in the spirit of the preparation for the Plenary Council 2020 in which we have already been engaged for the past eighteen months. Bishop Pat and the Diocesan Gaudium et Spes Plenary 20-20 Committee have been aware that, through the feedback from hundreds of listening and Dialogue conversations held in parishes, schools and regional gatherings, there is much that can be done in our Diocese right now.

We want to hear from people all across our Diocese about the vision they have for their diocese and parishes in living the joy of the Gospel.

The Sale Diocesan Assembly will be held at Marist Sion College Warragul on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th September 2019. Our Facilitators for the Assembly will be Mr Shane Dwyer, Director, and Mrs Sharon Brewer, Mission Projects manager from the National Centre for Evangelisation, Canberra. Also in attendance will be Ms Lana Turvey-Collins, the National Plenary Facilitator.

Bishop Pat is pleased to announce the themes of this year’s Assembly, which have been gathered from the Listening and Dialogue responses from across the Diocese, including the feedback from over 400 people who attended the Regional Listening and Dialogue Sessions with the Bishop held late last year.

The major Assembly themes are:

  1. Faith Formation & Spirituality (living out the joy of the Gospel)
  2. Leadership & Governance (providing leadership and structures that promote evangelisation)
  3. Families and Vocation (raising disciples in our families – so that they can go out into the world)
  4. Liturgy and Prayer (nourishing our communities)
  5. The Welcoming Community (a community on mission, not maintenance)

The Gaudium et Spes’ Plenary 2020 Convenor of our dioceses, Ms Sophy Morley, will be visiting our parish to present more information about the assembly on the 6th of August 2019 at 7:30 pm in the welcome room. All parishioners are invited to come and attend.

Elio Capra will be presenting “The Eucharist in the 21st Century” at St Michael’s on August 8th, at 7:00 pm, in the St Michael’s school stadium. All are invited to attend. Content is delivered at a level that children will not understand and so the talk is for adults only. No child minding available. Registrations are required for catering and seating purposes and can be done either:  1. Online at  www.schoolinterviews.com.au  Code: nqzd4  OR 2. Call St Michael’s parish office 9707 1355

The parish will soon be preparing school-aged children and their siblings for Baptism. If you would like your child/ren to be involved in this program could you please contact the parish office 59417315

Will be hosted this year by the archdioceses of Perth from Dec 8th to 10th on behalf of ACBC at Perth. The festival will use the scriptural focus of the 2020 Plenary Council theme “listen to what the spirit is saying” (Rev2:7). Young people from year 9 (in 2019) to young adults 30 years of age are invited to the event. It is a great opportunity for young people to deepen their relationship with Jesus, be empowered to be disciples in the world today and encounter and celebrate the vitality of the Church in Australia. If we have enough interest from the parish we could organize a group to go together. Please contact Siji through the parish office. For more information, check out their website at youthfestival.catholic.org.au.

Please pick up your  Planned Giving Receipt from the foyer to save on postage. There are still a few envelopes left if you can help deliver them it would be greatly appreciated.   Please contact Mary in the parish office  59417315.

“So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. Luke 11:9

In this teaching, Jesus reveals that the essence of prayer lies in our relationship with God. Our utter neediness makes an irrefusable claim on God. What hinders prayer is a forgetfulness that God is our creator and that all we are, and all we have is a gift.
